Coverage Overview
Motorcycle risk doesn't price the same way auto risk does - a policy built for how you actually ride matters more here than with a car.
What motorcycle coverage typically includes
- Liability coverage for injury or property damage you cause to others
- Collision and comprehensive coverage for damage to your bike
- Coverage for custom parts, chrome, and aftermarket accessories, which a standard policy often caps at a low limit unless scheduled separately
- Gear coverage for helmets, jackets, and riding equipment on some policies
Motorcycle Insurance FAQ
Is motorcycle insurance required in Florida?
Florida requires bodily injury liability coverage (or proof of financial responsibility) for motorcycles, but unlike cars, PIP is not required - a meaningful difference from auto insurance that catches some riders off guard after an accident.
Does my policy cover custom parts and gear?
Only up to whatever limit is built into the base policy, which is often modest. If you've added custom paint, chrome, or aftermarket parts, those typically need to be scheduled specifically to be covered at their real value.
What if I only ride seasonally?
Many carriers offer lay-up or storage coverage for the off-season, dropping the physical damage and liability portions while you're not riding but keeping comprehensive coverage in place for theft or storm damage.
