Coverage Overview
Standard homeowners and auto policies generally exclude ATVs, so a separate policy is what actually protects you if you damage your own machine or hurt someone else while riding.
What ATV coverage typically includes
- Physical damage coverage (collision and comprehensive) for the ATV itself
- Liability coverage if you injure someone or damage property while riding
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage in states or programs that offer it
- Coverage for accessories and aftermarket parts, if scheduled
ATV Insurance FAQ
Is ATV insurance required in Florida?
Florida doesn't require liability insurance to own an ATV, but it does require an approved safety course and, for anyone under 16, both a safety certificate and adult supervision to operate one. Many trail systems, dealers financing the purchase, and rental agreements require proof of coverage regardless of the state minimum.
Does my homeowners policy cover ATV accidents?
Rarely, and only in a limited way if the ATV is used exclusively on your own property. Once you ride on trails, public land, or a neighbor's property, a standard homeowners policy typically won't respond to a liability claim.
What if I ride on someone else's property or public trails?
That's exactly the exposure a dedicated ATV policy is built for: if you injure another rider or damage property while on trails you don't own, liability coverage is what responds, not your home or auto policy.
