How to Use ChatGPT or Claude to Get a Florida Insurance Quote
Quick answer
You can ask ChatGPT, Claude or another AI assistant to prepare a Florida insurance quote request for you. Point it at Magnuson Insurance's question list at magnusonins.com/quote/what-we-ask, let it ask you the questions for your coverage, and have it hand the answers back as a checklist or send them to the agency's intake API. A licensed Florida agent then compares carriers and emails the quotes. Nothing is bound by the request.
Key takeaways
- Magnuson Insurance publishes every question its quote request asks, line by line, at /quote/what-we-ask, with a plain-text copy for assistants and a JSON schema for software.
- Most assistants can read that page and walk you through the questions; fewer can submit a form or call an API, and that changes month to month. The guide below says how to tell.
- A request sent by an assistant lands in the same inbox as one from the website: a licensed agent reviews it, calls or emails you, and prepares the quotes. No texting consent is recorded and no marketing emails follow.
- The agency never asks for a Social Security number, a bank or card number, or a password in a quote request. Don't give those to an assistant either.
- A quote request is not an application and does not bind coverage. Each insurance company makes its own underwriting and pricing decisions.
People are already asking AI assistants to shop for insurance. The assistant reads a few agency websites, summarizes them, and then stalls, because every agency’s quote form is built for a person clicking through it one page at a time. We built a way around that. This guide explains what an assistant can do for you today, what it can’t, and the exact prompt to use.
What Magnuson Insurance publishes for assistants
The agency lists every question its quote request can ask, line by line, at magnusonins.com/quote/what-we-ask. The page is generated from the request itself, so it never drifts from the live form. Beside each question is the kind of answer it takes, whether it’s optional, and whether it’s asked only when an earlier answer calls for it.
Three versions exist, for three kinds of reader:
| Version | Address | Who it’s for |
|---|---|---|
| The web page | /quote/what-we-ask | You, and any assistant that can read a page |
| A plain-text copy | /quote/what-we-ask.md | Assistants that prefer text without page furniture |
| A JSON schema and OpenAPI document | /quote/api/intake and /quote/api/intake/openapi.json | Software, custom GPTs and agents that can send a request |
The page also explains how software sends a request: a JSON body to the agency’s intake address, with the field names shown beside each question. A request sent that way lands in the agency’s inbox like one sent from the website.
What an assistant can and can’t do with it
Capabilities differ by product and change often, so check what yours offers rather than assuming. As of November 2026, the pattern is this:
- Reading a page. Most assistants with web access can read the question list and ask you the questions in order. Anthropic’s documentation describes Claude’s web fetch tool as retrieving the full content of a web page or PDF you point it at, and ChatGPT’s browsing works the same way for pages it can reach.
- Sending the request. Fewer assistants can make a POST request to an API. OpenAI’s custom GPTs do it through Actions, which are defined by an OpenAPI document like the one the agency publishes. Agents built on the Claude or OpenAI developer platforms can be given the same ability. A plain chat in a consumer app usually can’t.
- Filling the website’s form. Agent modes that drive a browser can click through the request page by page, but they’re slow at it, and the first page asks for your email address and mobile number, which you should type yourself.
The practical rule: let the assistant collect and organize your answers, then either let it send them if it can, or send them yourself. The quote request takes an email address to start, and every page is a plain form.
The prompt to copy
Paste this into ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant, changing the coverage to what you need:
Read https://www.magnusonins.com/quote/what-we-ask. I want a homeowners insurance quote in Florida from Magnuson Insurance. Ask me the questions listed for a Homeowners quote, a few at a time, and keep my answers. Skip anything marked optional unless I want to answer it. When we’re done, show my answers as a checklist with the field code beside each one. If you’re able to send JSON to the intake address on that page, ask my permission first, send it, and tell me the reference number. If you can’t, tell me, and I’ll enter the answers at https://www.magnusonins.com/quote myself.
For auto, replace “Homeowners” with “Auto” and have it ask about each driver and vehicle. For a business, say “a business request” and name the coverage, such as general liability or a business owner’s policy.
A few things worth telling the assistant up front:
- The roof’s age, or the year it was replaced. Florida carriers ask about it on every home quote, and our roof age guide explains why.
- Whether you have a wind mitigation or 4-point inspection report. The wind mitigation guide and the 4-point inspection guide say what each covers.
- Your current carrier and renewal date, if you have a policy now.
What happens after the assistant sends it
Whether the request comes from an assistant, from the website or from a referral partner, the same things happen:
- The agency’s inbox gets the request with a reference number, and a note saying who sent it.
- You get a confirmation email at the address given.
- A licensed agent reviews the answers within one business day and calls or emails you for anything still missing. The response the assistant receives lists those missing questions too.
- The agent compares the carriers the agency writes with and emails the quotes.
- You choose, or you don’t. Nothing is bound until you accept a quote and the insurance company issues the policy.
Two differences are deliberate. A request sent by software records no texting consent, because an assistant can’t tick that box for you, so the agency reaches you by phone or a plain email. And no marketing emails follow it.
What to have ready before you ask
Whichever way you send the request, these shorten the follow-up call:
- Your address, and the property’s address if it’s different
- The year the home was built and roughly how many square feet it has
- The roof’s year and material, or the year of the last replacement
- The year of the last plumbing, electrical, water heater and heating or cooling updates, if you know them
- Your current policy’s declarations page, or the carrier’s name and renewal date
- For auto: each driver’s name, date of birth and license, and each vehicle’s year, make, model and VIN
- For a business: what the business does, when it started, revenue and payroll, and the current policies
- Any inspection reports you already have
You can upload the declarations page and the inspection reports on the second page of the request. The assistant can’t do that for you, but it costs a minute.
What the agency will never ask for
The quote request never asks for a Social Security number, a bank or card number, or a password, through the website or through software. If an assistant or a page asks for those for a quote, stop. An insurance company may ask for more once you’re buying a policy, and the agent will tell you when and why.
The Florida Department of Financial Services’ Division of Consumer Services is the state’s help line for insurance questions and complaints, and a good place to check any insurance request that feels off.
For real estate agents, mortgage brokers and other partners
The same door is open to referral partners. A real estate agent or mortgage broker with a buyer under contract can send the request from the refer-a-client page: the property address, the client’s contact details and the closing date. The partner gets a receipt with the reference number, the client gets a confirmation naming the partner, and the closing date goes on the agency’s calendar so the binder and the evidence of insurance reach the lender in time. Partners with their own software can send the same request through the API, with a referral block carrying their name and the closing date.
Why we built it this way
An assistant that can only read a site will describe the agency and stop. One that can read the questions can prepare you, and one that can send them can finish the job. Publishing the questions costs the agency nothing and saves you the back-and-forth. Keeping a licensed agent in the loop is not a limitation; in Florida, it’s how a quote becomes a policy.
Frequently asked questions
Can ChatGPT or Claude buy insurance for me?
No. An assistant can gather your answers and send a quote request, but only a licensed agent prepares the quotes, and only the insurance company issues the policy once you accept one and the premium is paid. Nothing an assistant sends binds coverage.
Is it safe to give an AI assistant my address and date of birth for a quote?
Those are the facts any insurance quote needs, and they go to the agency the same way they would through its website. Read the assistant's own privacy terms, use the agency's question list so you only answer what's asked, and never give an assistant a Social Security number, a bank or card number, or a password. The quote site's privacy notice explains what the agency keeps and who sees it.
What if my assistant can't send the request?
Have it show your answers as a checklist, then start the request yourself and copy them in. The pages are plain forms, and the first step takes only an email address. You can also email the checklist to the agency or read it over the phone.
Does the agency treat a request from an assistant differently?
It lands in the same inbox as a website request, with a note saying which assistant sent it. The agent calls or emails you for anything still missing, compares the carriers the agency writes with, and emails the quotes. The one difference is that no texting consent is recorded, because an assistant can't tick that box for you.
Can a real estate agent or mortgage broker send my quote request this way?
Yes, with your knowledge. The agency has a refer-a-client page where a partner enters the property address, your contact details and the closing date. You get a confirmation naming them, and the agency works the quote back from the closing date so the lender has the binder in time.
